We are a company of dedicated landscape designers, horticulturists, Green Roof Professionals, and craftspeople who bring guidance and unparalleled experience to each new project. Our growing team is friendly, knowledgeable, and OSHA certified. We all take pride in constructing green roof projects that stand the test of time.
Mark Winterer
CO-FOUNDER AND OWNER, GRP
Mark is an accredited Green Roof Professional and licensed general contractor with extensive experience in landscaping, operational logistics, supply-chain management, and customer service. He holds an MBA from the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University. Mark’s path to green roofing began when he started working at his father’s old country inn where he learned about quality construction and fine craftsmanship. As an entrepreneur and an environmentalist, Mark explored business opportunities that would contribute to a more sustainable economy. The more he learned about green roofs, the more he fell in love with them. Since founding Recover in 2009, Mark has designed, built, and maintained hundreds of green roofs across the nation, making the world greener one roof at a time.

Brynn Bernheimer
DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS &
FINANCE, MBA
Brynn comes to Recover with a diverse background in real estate, arts & entertainment, public relations, and personal caregiving. A go-to resource in the Somerville office, Brynn develops Recover’s in-house systems while supporting her surrounding team members in renewing the urban environment with vital plant life. -

Kiley Burke
ADMINISTRATOR
Kiley brings 3+ years of experience in human resources and office administration to the amazing Recover admin team. In her spare time Kiley likes to take care of her veggie garden + pumpkin patch and teach people how to sail. She has more houseplants than she can handle. -

Katina Bentley
DIRECTOR OF MARKETING
Kat is an accomplished marketing professional with a diverse career dedicated to fostering relationships and community. She is passionate about innovation and committed to causes including the environment, education, and social justice. She joins the Recover team with a unique background and brings strength in storytelling, design, program management, event planning, and partnerships, adding significant value to projects and initiatives. -

Matt Barner
DIRECTOR OF FIELD OPERATIONS,
CIT, CID
After graduating from The Landing School of Boat Building and Design in Maine, Matt worked as a boatbuilder and woodworker creating exterior and interior finishing, woodwork, and custom fiberglass boats for 15 years. With an eye for detail and an easy-going spirit, Matt skillfully oversees hardscaping, decking, and custom woodworking projects at Recover.

Laura Feddersen
LEAD DESIGNER & PROJECT MANAGER, CSL
Laura first began designing urban environments with the landscape and architecture firm Rader & Crews in Brooklyn, NY. She previously worked as Director of Horticulture at Green City Growers in Somerville, designed and built urban farms with Capital Roots in Troy, NY, and studied carpentry as an intern at Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Vermont. She completed her Master of Landscape Architecture at the Boston Architectural College and holds a Bachelor of Environmental Design from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia. -

Jim Thornton
DIRECTOR OF ESTIMATING & SALES
Jim joins Recover with extensive experience in estimating and project management in the landscape construction industry in the Washington, D.C. metro region. Jim holds a degree in Economics from St. Lawrence University in New York, the alma mater of Recover’s co-owners Mark and Brendan. When he’s not working, Jim enjoys mountain biking, running, and traveling. -

Althea Northcross
DESIGNER, PLA
Althea came to recover with a background in public space design and urban forestry advocacy. Having started her design career in Boston, she has local experience working on landscape design, planning and construction projects. Althea completed her Master in Landscape Architecture at Harvard and is registered to practice in Massachusetts. Outside of work, Althea can be found looking for pools, beaches and swimming holes across New England.

Dave Reitano
SITE SUPERINTENDENT
Dave joins Recover with 40 years of experience in the construction industry as a self-employed carpenter-contractor. As one of our site superintendents, Dave manages day-to-day tasks on our project sites, including: scheduling and coordinating the Recover build crew, organizing subcontractors, ordering materials, and managing deliveries. -

Connor Hammon
PROJECT MANAGER
Before joining the team at Recover, Connor worked for Atlas Technical Consultants and Optimum Construction. He received his BS in Environmental Science from UMass Amherst. In his free time, Connor enjoys going to concerts, spending time outside, and being with his friends. When it comes to nature, he believes that spending time outdoors is an essential reset for our health. -

Aiden Brenizer
ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGER
Aiden joins the Recover Team with his degree from St. Lawrence University and a background in landscape design, farming, outdoor education and coaching. In addition to spending time running, biking or playing soccer he enjoys being in outdoor green spaces in the city where nature is sparse! -

Broderick Gumpright
BUILDER
As a small business owner of over twelve years, Broderick comes to Recover with a variety of experience in retail management to customer service. As a builder, Broderick plays an important role in creating a sustainable environmental future for our planet. -

Miguel Hernandez
BUILDER
Miguel joins Recover with experience working in a variety of construction trades from plumbing to remodeling to installing cement decks. Miguel’s love of fishing inspired his interest in building green roofs because of their potential to manage stormwater runoff, thereby protecting local fisheries. He is excited to take part in installing a variety of scopes on green roofs. -

Tom Brandt
IRRIGATION TECHNICIAN, CIT
Tom comes to Recover with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from York College of Pennsylvania. His previous experience in mechanical design gave him the intuition to take on the design, installation, and maintenance of our green roof irrigation systems. Tom is excited to work with green roofs because of their ecological and aesthetic benefits. Outside of work, Tom enjoys mountain biking and snowboarding. -

Seamus Mellett
BUILDER
As part of the Build Team at Recover, Seamus has refined an interest in “living soil,” which enables the fully organic growth of plants in your garden without the need for additives. He earned his finance degree from Bentley University and enjoys all genres and forms of music. In his free time he makes beats -- mostly rap and hip hop but also a variety of electronic music. -

Antonio Colon

Before joining Recover Green Roofs, Antonio worked in demolition, construction, and was a sod installer. He is passionate about the work he does as part of a team and loves seeing the finished product! -

Emily Ahlstedt
HORTICULTURE SALES & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Emily brings a strong foundation and a passion for helping projects succeed, especially when it comes to remediation and giving struggling systems the extra care they need. She holds a dual degree from the University of New Hampshire in Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems and EcoGastronomy, and began her career in horticulture before moving into green roofs. Emily has experience seeing projects through from concept to completion and now enjoys working directly with clients on new installations, system enhancements, and long-term maintenance. Outside of work, you’ll find her spending time with her family, exploring the woods, or swimming in the ocean. -

Steph Almasi
DIRECTOR OF HORTICULTURE & MAINTENANCE
Steph has been a lifelong gardener and lover of plants and nature. She has over twenty years of experience in varied areas of horticulture; residential, historic and public from midcoast Maine to Charleston, SC and most recently, Rose Kennedy Greenway and Mount Auburn Cemetery. A passion for plants both native and unique, she loves creating and maintaining spaces that are ecologically beneficial, biodiverse and meaningful for all beings. Steph is a naturalist to the core and loves birding, botanizing and messing around in her overly ambitious vegetable garden. -

Kristin Neill Stierwalt
HORTICULTURE MANAGER
Kristin joined the Recover Team having worked as a Horticulture Manager in Seattle, WA, where she worked with a collection of over 3,000 species of tropical plants. Kristin earned her undergrad degree in Horticulture Science from NC State and an MS in Ornamental Horticulture from Oregon State. Having developed a love for urban horticulture, Kristin is excited to bring her knowledge to Recover to create beautiful, thriving rooftop spaces. When she is not on a rooftop, Kristin enjoys spending time in her home garden and is training for an extended backpacking trip through the Midwest. -

Jonas Herbst
LEAD HORTICULTURIST
Jonas comes to Recover with a varied background in arts, design, restoration, and education. After completing his art and design studies in Vienna, Austria, he channeled his passion for creating growth environments into social education, community training, and biophilic design in Barcelona, Spain before arriving in Boston. Jonas is eager to join Recover and its crew of like-minded individuals in creating welcoming environments and green spaces. -

Sidney Hare
LEAD HORTICULTURIST
Sidney brings her agricultural background and degree in Environmental Science from Boston University to the Recover team. She is passionate about the importance of green roofs because of their ability to create community, connection with nature, support the ecological wellbeing of the planet, and provide fresh local produce. Her career goal is to help create these necessary green spaces within cities. -

Sam Trulli
LEAD HORTICULTURIST
With three years of experience at the Rose Kennedy Greenway, Sam led native planting projects and educational programming focused on urban ecology. They managed a vegetable garden and coordinated hands-on learning visits with City Sprouts, introducing students to the value of green space in city environments. Now transitioning into rooftop gardening, Sam is passionate about expanding green infrastructure in urban settings to help mitigate the heat island effect and manage stormwater runoff. -

Luke Kennedy
HORTICULTURE SPECIALIST
Luke joins Recover’s Maintenance team as a Horticulture Specialist, supporting the long-term health and performance of green roofs through hands-on plant care, seasonal stewardship, and site maintenance. He studied environmental science and ecosystems at Boston University and spent summers in New Hampshire at DAcres, a community-scale permaculture and learning center. Luke is especially interested in biodiversity, soil health, and insects, and is excited to help create thriving ecosystems in the built environment. -

Sophia Samaha
HORTICULTURE SPECIALIST
Sophia’s BS in Environmental Science and minor in Food Systems from Northeastern University has led her to work in a variety of green spaces around Boston: The Food Project’s urban farms, the Mary Ellen Welch Greenway, and the Arnold Arboretum. She brings a passion for environmental justice, ecological horticulture, and nature-based solutions to this role at Recover, and she is excited to contribute to the development of green infrastructure in Boston. -

Liam Williams
HORTICULTURE SPECIALIST
With a background in public and ecological horticulture, Liam is excited to bring his knowledge and talents to the greenroofs industry. Liam is excited to connect people and plants during his time with Recover. -

Autumn Jencks
HORTICULTURE INTERN
Autumn, a Massachusetts native, came to recover with a passion for protecting local biodiversity and environmental advocacy. Through her studies in biology and environmental studies, she developed an interest in connecting people with nature through art and community development. She hopes to utilize her knowledge and appreciation for nature to one day receive a master’s in Landscape Architecture. -

Finn Doyle
