ROOFTOP AMENITY SPACE
Recover worked with Copley Wolff Design Group and Cranshaw Construction to complete green roofs on the 4th (~13,000 sq/ft) and 24th (2,000 sq/ft) floors of Assembly Row Block 8. The building is part of a mixed-use riverfront development by Federal Realty Investment Trust and features 500 new apartments from which residents will have full access to the green roofs of either floor.
The 4th floor (featured) is a sprawling amenity green roof with a pool, grill stations, sod lawn, and built-in planter seating areas. The custom, amoeba-shaped planters (below) were sourced from Planterworx and required on-the-spot ingenuity to install. The unique shapes of the planters required the Recover team to cut precise curves in the hardscape without disrupting the roof membrane, drainage, or irrigation systems. A foam base was then constructed to create the topography within the planters, followed by soil media, mulch, and a variety of perennials and trees.
