INTENSIVE RETROFIT
Nestled in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Newton, Mass., Hampton Place is a 99-unit condominium building built in 1984. Recover worked with Patriot Restoration and Warner Larson Landscape Architects to renovate an aging half-acre outdoor amenity space above a parking garage that connects the two buildings.
Recover led multiple soil conveyors to move over 1,000 yards of media onto the roof, at depths of up to three feet, in order to create 17,000 square feet of planted space. The green roof features 13,000 square feet of locally grown bluegrass sod lawn; a large English-style garden with over two dozen species of flowering perennials; and several tree species including river birches, Japanese maples, and blue point junipers.
In addition to the planted space, Recover installed 8,000 square feet of boutique color-ground concrete pavers and 800 feet of Vermont granite curbing around the pool and lounge space. The paver design included complex radial geometries, cutouts, and finish details.
A state-of-the-art irrigation design ensures a healthy green roof—the system provides targeted hydration to over 23 zones on the site and reacts to numerous microclimates. A wirelessly enabled controller adjusts for weather and evapotranspiration rates and allows Recover’s irrigation technicians to remotely monitor water placement.
