BRINGING BIODIVERSITY TO THE ROOF
Rising above the treetops of Cambridge, this eighth floor roof deck on a multi-unit apartment building near Harvard Square acts a place of respite for birds and residents alike.
Recover worked closely with designers from Akelius Real Estate Management to craft this outdoor living area with 1,750 square feet of deck space surrounded by 2,600 square feet of green roof area planted with sedum, flowering perennials, and grasses. Recover conveyed and installed all materials above the roof membrane, including: green roof components, soil media, plants, and 400 square feet of Permaloc edging and veg-free stone pathways. Sedum mats were laid in distinct color swathes across half the roof’s footprint on the southwest side, while mounded beds with five to eight inches of soil line the deck’s edges providing additional height, color, and textures to the roof.
