GREEN ROOFS DESIGNED FOR WATERSHED PROTECTION AND ENERGY CONSERVATION
Environmental stewardship is one of the founding principles at New England Biolabs, based in Ipswich, MA. The green roof design and installation specifically considered watershed protection and energy conservation.
The project includes multiple distinct green roofs totaling over 32,000 sq. ft. and was designed to blend into the ecological surroundings on campus. Glass windows at the roof level allow all employees to feel immersed in the pollinator meadow. Its stormwater management capabilities, support of local pollinator habitats, and aesthetic value support the roofs’ goals to be utilized to improve the company’s overall commitment to ecological practices and environmental sustainability.
Our company was subcontracted directly by the General Contractor, Columbia Construction to install this project. The architect of record is ARC of Boston MA, and the Landscape Architect is Richard Burck Associates of Somerville MA. Studio Sustena was brought on as a specialty green roof systems consultant, and Offshoots Inc. was the consultant for integrated native-ecological planting. Our horticulture team maintains the green roofs on an ongoing basis.
